Though winter water levels will vary, most rivers flow out of lakes and are therefore clear and fishable. Generally, streamers fished
to the riffles, drop-offs and river banks are most effective at this time of year, but nymph fishing can also produce well. The fish have not seen an artificial fly in months & can be quite aggressive, producing some of the biggest fish of the season. Water levels are higher but it's also the perfect time to fish the smaller streams & rivers that are no longer accessible later in the season.
December, which is equivalent to June in the U.S. Rockies, is warm
and very pleasant with daytime temps averaging 75 degrees. The vivid pink & purple Lupine,
yellow Ratama bush and wild roses along the river
banks create an extravaganza of landscape color.

These are the prime months of summer in Patagonia and the water levels
are perfect. Dry fly fishing is superb with nymphs and streamers also producing consistently. The weather is usually more consistent & days can be quite warm with temps climbing into the
mid to high 80s. This is a wonderful time to take in some of the cultural events that take place in the area such as the "Fiesta del Puestero" and the "Rural."

March continues with summer-like weather & just the hint of autumn. Water levels are
slightly lower, providing easier wading in some of the bigger waters. Dries & nymphs produce consistently.
In April, the Poplars & Willows are beginning to turn a glorious yellow, the nights are cooler & the trout a bit more frisky. The shorter days and cooler temps make the larger fish more aggressive &
March and April can be when the largest fish of the season are caught.
